SUMMARY:
The Stoney Language Teacher delivers Stoney Nakoda language lessons across SEA schools using the Speak
Stoney Program and approved materials. This role supports language preservation by combining language
with cultural teachings for students from preschool to grade 12. The teacher works with the Principal, staff,
Elders, and the community to provide culturally grounded instruction.


Duties and Responsibilities
• Deliver Stoney Nakoda language instruction using the Speak Stoney program with fidelity.
• Incorporate approved resources, such as leveled textbooks, student dictionaries, and digital tools, into
lessons.
• Design and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based instruction for preschool and
kindergarten students.
• Connect classroom instruction to Stoney Nakoda culture and traditions, fostering cultural pride and
identity.
• Collaborate with Student Success Teachers, therapy teams, Elders, and community members to
support student learning.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, including administering the Speak Stoney digital assessment
and preparing report cards.
• Maintain classroom environments that are safe, inclusive, and respectful of diverse learning needs.
• Participate in professional development opportunities, including SEA and STA mandatory training.
• Always represent SEA in a professional and culturally sensitive manner.


Education and Skills
• Demonstrated fluency in the Stoney Nakoda language (required).
• Experience teaching, tutoring, or leading cultural/language programs (preferred).
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Ability to foster inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.

Employment Conditions
• Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM (Mon–Thu), 8:15 AM – 2:45 PM (Fri). Extended hours may be required for
events, conferences, and professional development.
• Checks: Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
• Transportation: Reliable transportation required.
• Language: Must be a fluent Stoney Nakoda language speaker.
