Overview
Reporting to the Patrol Supervisor & Mountain Operations Manager, the main responsibility of the Ski Patroller is to ensure the safety of our Guests and staff within the Lake Louise Ski Area boundaries.
Job Responsibilities:
- Present and prepared for daily morning meeting
- Daily maintenance, setup, and removal of all signs and rope lines
- Hazard identification and mitigation prior to public access
- Promotion of skier safety and accident reduction through positive interactions with our Guests regarding safety and the “Your Responsibility Code” including policing of various runs and terrain
- Responding to emergencies and providing medical care to the sick and injured. This includes medical chart writing and accident documentation (good writing and documentation skills are essential).
- The transportation of patients down the mountain to the base area by toboggan or other means for medical treatment and/or arrangement of transport to a medical facility.
- Extrication of patients from compromising situations and places, including high angle rescue, and emergency chair lift evacuation in all weather conditions
- Assist in risk management/accident investigations
- Search and Rescue within the Ski Area boundaries
- Assist in avalanche control and snow stabilization.
- Snowmobile operations
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Must be in excellent physical condition and able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Follow all LLSR policies and procedures
- Complete other tasks as assigned
- A three month probationary period applies
- A police background check, from your home country or province, will be required upon commencement of employment
- 80+ hour advanced first aid course certification minimum
- Advanced skiing ability
- Previous Patrol experience is an asset
- Reasonable knowledge of the Lake Louise Ski Area preferred
- Lift evacuation experience and knowledge preferred
- AST 1 or 2, or CAA-ITP Level 1 or equivalent preferred
- Mountaineering / backcountry travel experience preferred
- A positive attitude, pleasant personality, good ethical and communication skills, combined with the ability and willingness to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license (or international equivalent); previous Winter driving experience; a driver’s abstract and a claims experience letter from a previous insurer stating 3 years claims-free history (obtained before commencing)
