Job Summary

Join our Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program as a Cultural Helper and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve. We’re currently looking for a compassionate and dedicated helper to fill a relief, unionized position. This role is in-person in Mînî Thnî and work hours are every Tuesdays & Wednesdays 8am to 1pm, and Thursdays 8am to 12pm. Salary: CAD 30.00 hourly.

This Cultural Helper role is dedicated to supporting and helping Indigenous men and women, who fit the mandate of the Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program (PFVTP), to address issues of domestic violence through traditional Indigenous healing practices, and in alignment with their Indigenous culture.
The PFVTP at Fear Is Not Love is funded by Alberta Recovery, and is a partnership between Tsuut’ina Stoney Corrections Society and FearIsNotLove. Men& provides a wealth of resources which are used as part of the curriculum for the PFVTP. The program is based in Morley and is working primarily with clients who reside on the Stoney/Nakoda nation. Alberta Justice and the Solicitor General are the primary referral sources for the PFVTP. If there is capacity, then referrals may also be accepted from Children’s Services, community agencies, law enforcement, and/or self-referred clients

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Develop and support an in-person group of mandated clients who have been referred for treatment services through the PFVTP.
  • Follow the Service Operating Requirements of the PFVTP and provide support, information, connection to resources and referrals to support the client’s journey towards their goals.
  • Administer a risk screener and follow an intake and assessment process when bringing clients into the program. The PFVTP Cultural Helper will make referrals to other programs when clients are not a fit for the group program in Morley.
  • Elevate any concerns around risk, such as threats or risk of harm, to the supervisor of the program and to the Practice Advisor
  • Support referrals to community based cultural ceremonies and practices as appropriate
  • Maintain strict practices around confidentiality and privacy, and sensitivity to issues which arise when working in tight knit communities in a rural context.
  • Ensure Compliance with Accreditation Standards; Maintain current police and IRC checks, professional registration (if applicable), and required accreditation-related training (e.g., First Aid, NVCI, Indigenous, Diversity, response-based).
  • Other duties as assigned to support FearIsNotLove’s clients and program.

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR MISSION:

  • Diploma in Human Services or related field required.
  • Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Thorough understanding and familiarity with Indigenous healing practices and Indigenous culture and ceremony
  • An ability to speak and understand Stoney would be considered an asset
  • References from the community – where Cultural Ceremonies may be hosted
  • Previous experience facilitating small groups in Indigenous Communities
  • Ongoing certifications, training and development are a required condition of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required.
