Job Summary:
The Kitchen Staff supports the Head Cook with meal prep, dishwashing, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness while
following health and safety regulations. Their role ensures smooth kitchen operations and nutritious, student-friendly
meals. At Stoney Education Authority (SEA), this work supports a holistic, culturally grounded approach to education by
incorporating traditional Stoney Nakoda foods and promoting student well-being.
Reports to: Head Cook and/or School Principal
This position reports directly to the Head Cook and/or School Principal, ensuring custodial
operations align with school-wide health, safety, and cleanliness standards.
Daily Expectations
• Work Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM / 8:15-2:45 Friday. Extended hours may be required for school and district
events, meetings, etc.
• Punctuality and Attendance: Consistent attendance is essential. Prompt notification of absences to the
Superintendent is mandatory.
• Professional Appearance: Always maintain a neat and professional appearance.
• Respectful Conduct: Treat students, staff, and visitors with respect and kindness.
• Public Representation: Represent the SEA in a professional and culturally sensitive manner and during public
events.
• Policy Compliance: Abide by all SEA and SNN policies and procedures.
• Emergency Preparedness: Follow emergency guidelines, including fire and lockdown procedures
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the Head Cook with food preparation, such as washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
• Help with the preparation of meals and snacks according to the school menu.
• Ensure that all food is served in a timely and appealing manner.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and storing supplies.
• Ensure all kitchen tools, equipment, and utensils are cleaned and properly sanitized after each use.
• Assist in daily kitchen clean-up tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and trash disposal.
• Assist in serving meals to students during breakfast, lunch, or snack times.
• Ensure that food is replenished during mealtimes and that portions are properly served.
• Follow any special instructions for serving students with dietary restrictions or allergies.
• Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure safe food handling and preparation.
• Report any kitchen hazards, maintenance issues, or food quality concerns to Head Cook.
• Assist with food preparation and service during school or district events as directed by the Head Cook.
• Help organize kitchen supplies and food inventory as directed.
• Assist with proper food storage, ensuring that items are labeled and stored appropriately to prevent waste.
• All kitchen staff will attend training and certification courses as required to stay current.
Education, Skills, Requirements:
• Effective communication with teachers and parents to support student progress and collaboration.
• Experienced in supporting students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
• Able to simplify complex lessons for all students.
• Proficient in IT, first aid, and relevant subject matter.
• Flexible and adaptable to adjust teaching methods and environments based on student or school needs.
• Stoney Nakoda Language and Culture: Fluency in the language and knowledge of the culture is considered an
asset. Willingness to speak the language and share cultural knowledge within the school and with students daily
is encouraged.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to manage kitchen staff and work collaboratively with school personnel.
• Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to food service.
