JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Facilities Coordinator, the Custodian has the primary
responsibility for cleaning the Mini Thni Recreation Center in such a way to promote health and safety
while reducing the spread of infection. The Custodian will follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning
schedules and must be available to work evenings and weekends.
TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Arena/Gymnasium
• The janitor supply rooms must be locked at all times other than getting out needed supplies.
• Clean and maintain janitor equipment after each use (i.e. hand tools, buckets, rags, brooms,
mops, squeegees, etc.)
• Complete assigned work areas and support other custodians in completing work when required.
• Secure building (i.e. check for unlocked doors and windows, turn off lights, etc.) and report any
unauthorized occupants.
• Ensure the spectator seating (stands/bleachers) are swept and mopped daily.
• Ensure the gym floor has been swept and mopped daily.
• Utilize the floor polisher on gymnasium floor.
• Ensure dressing room showers are cleaned daily.
• Assist with inventory control and ordering.
• Clean and disinfect washrooms, including but not limited to, all washroom fixtures and floors.
• Ensure the continued supply of washroom accessories (soap, towels, toilet tissue, facial tissue,
deodorizer, etc).
• Clean, dust, and disinfect desks, cabinets, office partitioning daily.
• Ensure garbage cans are emptied daily/weekly.
• Wash office chairs weekly or as required.
• Wash ashtrays, garbage pails and accessible windows (interior and exterior) as required.
• Sweep, mop, clean, dust and disinfect meeting room after each use.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
• Must be able to handle and use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Must be physically able to perform duties which include moderate lifting & moving heavy objects.
• Ability to read, understand and follow special safety instructions and procedures.
• Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
• Ability to understand written and verbal communication.
• Reliable and trustworthy.
• Self-motivated and self-disciplined.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
• Fluency in Stoney is an asset.
