Growing up, Lionel spent his time between the Blood Tribe and Morley, AB. He is related to many people, including his extended family in Eden Valley. He was gifted with a traditional upbringing and knowledge along with modern educational opportunities. After graduation from high school, Lionel enrolled in Civil Engineering in 1993. He became Bearspaw’s first Emergency Medical Technician in 1998. His participation in the medical field inspired others to choose this as a career, and he was instrumental in bringing Nakoda EMS ambulance services to Morley. His recent work involves training and capacity building in Morley, Eden Valley and surrounding areas. More recently, Lionel has received professional training from the Banff Centre in Indigenous Leadership and Management. He has taken courses in Strategic Planning, Good Governance for Indigenous Councils and Boards as well as Business and Economic Development.
